In Japan, it seems there's serious talk of using robots and power suits for elder care. This isn't a new idea to Japan though-- it came up more than a decade ago in Rojin Z (aka, "Old Man Z"), a delightful anime film by Katsuhiro Otomo, best known in the 'States for the ground-breaking epics Akira and Metropolis.
The above article describes something so amazingly similiar to the plot
background of Otomo's film, it makes me question if the story is
actually a hoax. If not, we maybe witnessing an amazing case of life
imitating art.
Speaking of movie connections, Mel Gibson is planning on releasing in the not too distant future another obscure-language epic, this one set 500 years ago in what we now call Mexico. With a title like Apocalypto, one might be tempted to say it relates in some ways to the eagerly awaited 2012 ending of the Mayan calender, which quite a few moderns, of course, read as a cue for global cataclysm. This writer, although always up for another movie about the end of the world, would like to point out that what was going on in Mexico 500 some years ago was pretty damn apocalyptic as well, and may very well be the subject of the film.
In Canada, scientists will be testing alleged Bigfoot hair. The results should arrive by the end of the week.
A paleolithic penis! Charmingly, it will be displayed in an exhibit called "Ice Art-- Clearly Male."
